What a facelift actually is

A selective rebuild of the visible kitchen.

Most kitchens are visually defined by a relatively small set of components: door and drawer fronts, end panels, handles, benchtops, splashbacks and the way those elements meet each other. If the internal cabinet boxes are still in good condition, those visible surfaces can often be replaced without demolishing the whole room.

That is fundamentally different from simply painting old doors. A proper facelift can involve made-to-measure replacement fronts, new panels that re-wrap exposed cabinetry, new hinges and runners where required, updated hardware, and careful finishing around appliances and walls.

What we will not doWe will not recommend keeping cabinetry that is water-damaged, structurally compromised or fundamentally wrong for the space. A facelift only makes sense when the base kitchen deserves to stay.

Typical scope

Build the facelift around the kitchen you already have.

You can stop at doors and handles, or take the refresh further. The right scope depends on what currently dates the room.

Core refresh

Replacement cabinet doors, drawer fronts, exposed end panels, kickboards and handles.

Surface refresh

Add a new benchtop and splashback to change the strongest horizontal and vertical surfaces.

Small layout improvements

Subject to existing cabinetry: adjust a door, infill, panel, open shelf or appliance surround without pretending it is a new kitchen.

What stays?

The existing cabinet carcasses usually stay fixed in place. That can include base cabinets, wall cabinets, pantry carcasses and internal shelves. Plumbing and electrical positions usually remain substantially unchanged.

What changes?

Anything the scope specifically calls for: doors, drawer fronts, panels, kickboards, fillers, handles, hinges, benchtops, splashbacks and finishing trims. Some internal hardware can also be upgraded if the existing cabinet construction allows it.

Will it look like a completely new kitchen?

A good facelift can create that impression from normal viewing angles, but it is still important to understand what remains. Opening a cabinet will reveal the existing internal carcass unless internal changes are part of the quote. We prefer to make that boundary clear before you commit.
